Learned the synthetic steps toward Jerangolid D developed thus far by prior thesis students, optimized synthetic reactions on up to a 3-fold larger scale, and produced/amassed a stock of the most current intermediate for future work on Jerangolid D. Project continued as a Bachelor's Thesis.

One of 18 recipients of the American Chemical Society International Research Experience for Undergraduates (ACS IREU) scholarship funding a 10-12 week research internship in Germany, Italy, Scotland, or Singapore. One of 8 chosen to research in Germany jointly through the ACS IREU and DAAD Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE) programs. Worked in the lab of Professor Anne Staubitz in the Department of Organic Chemistry of Christian-Albrechts University. Aimed to synthesize spiropyran-containing poly-(3-hexylthiophene) systems and assess the effect UV-initiated "switching" of the spiropyran has on the conductivity of the polymer. Synthesized the first tin-functionalized spiropyran known to date and presented this research at the ACS National Conference 2015 in Denver, Colorado.

Research Assistant for Professor Enrique Peacock-López of the Chemistry Department working on a theoretical chemistry research project as part of the Summer Student-Faculty Research Program in the Sciences. Kick-started a new research project by developing a theoretical model of a melatonin-releasing circadian signaling pathway and beginning to build a mathematical model that maps out the feedback and feedforward mechanisms governing this part of the circadian system. Studied oscillatory mathematics and investigated the physiology of the major components of the circadian system and the biological processes through which they are regulated.
