By working at the Marketplace I developed my customer service skills, conflict management, and communication skills. Specifically, by working with the public, I gained exposure to ways to resolve conflict when a customer had questions or queries.

For the second summer with the Bermuda Hospitals Board, I was able to develop my skills further by being apart of the summer camp held at Child and Adolescent Services (CAS). I took on an administrative role in the beginning by collaborating with clinicians to plan a camp with some features of the former camp and some new therapeutic activities to help the service users. Through the course of a month, I communicated with many community centers to plan outings that would enrich the service user's experience at the camp. I exhibited leadership skills in my second summer by planning parts of the camp as well as being responsible for daily fitness activities for the service users. This responsibility allowed me to improvise well and to trust my instincts. For example, it is important to anticipate that not every service use will cooperate or be interested in the activity, and it is important to plan ahead to adjust the activity as needed. Show less
