As sole communications specialist for this Centre of Research Excellence, I managed all its communications. My responsibilities ranged from annual report planning and writing to social media management, and everything in between. I was responsible for internal and external newsletters, media liaison, publicity, and helping CoRE scientists with their communication needs.I also managed the website https://bioprotection.org.nz/ including managing a relaunch as Bioprotection Aotearoa

In this role I wrote and edited content for, and helped to manage, the health information website, www.healthinfo.org.nz. I also developed and led workshops on plain English communication for health professionals at Canterbury DHB. My role involved working with clinical staff to plan website sections, structuring and editing copy to ensure it's easily understood and accurate, and general website maintenance.

Having moved to Christchurch from Auckland at the beginning of 2013, I worked as a contracting and freelancing writer, editor and communications consultant for Your Story Communications, Bloom PR and Canterbury District Health Board.

Working mainly on internal communications, I completely revamped the Waitemata DHB official staff magazine Healthlines (see http://www.waitematadhb.govt.nz/NewsMedia/Healthlines.aspx). I made it a real tool for staff and community engagement, focusing on stories of the people who are the heart of the DHB. From being a publication that people flicked through and read bits of, it became a must-read for staff, management, the board, patients and their families, community health workers and other stakeholders. I also provided communications advice and services for several teams inside the DHB, including the Awhina Health Campus and the Waitemata Health Excellence Awards.

Writing and researching speeches and op-eds for the Mayor of Auckland (part-time, contracting)

I used my skills to help businesses and organisations communicate with their clients, customers, staff and community, wrote for several magazines and newspapers, and wrote and optimised web copy.

Part-time contract editing role, involved liasing with clinical contributors, editing copy and working with designer to produced the Practice (clinical) section of NZ Doctor

Part-time (16 hours a week) managing the account of specialist recruitment firm Robert Half NZ and helping other staff with specific writing tasks (media releases, ghost-written articles) on their accounts.

I worked as a sub-editor across almost every editorial department at the New Zealand Herald, including features and news, and was Careers editor for six months over a section relaunch.
