As an occupational therapist in an acute mental health setting, I am responsible for assessing and supporting individuals experiencing mental health crises. My role includes conducting detailed assessments, such as the Allen Cognitive Level Screen, to evaluate cognitive functioning and develop tailored treatment plans aimed at enhancing daily living skills and overall well-being. I work both individually and in group settings, providing therapeutic interventions that foster recovery, skill development, and social participation.Key responsibilities: • Conduct comprehensive cognitive and functional assessments. • Design and implement individualised treatment plans for clients in acute care. • Facilitate group therapy sessions to promote skill-building, social interaction, and support. • Work collaboratively with psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and other allied health professionals to ensure holistic patient care. • Support clients in developing coping strategies, life skills, and community reintegration. • Deliver therapeutic interventions focused on improving mental health, quality of life, and occupational engagement. • Participate in case reviews and contribute to discharge planning.
