About Andrew Johnston

Growing up, I always had a deep interest and passion for music, and I've been lucky enough to spin that into a career in live entertainment. As a frequent concert goer, it's always been my goal to increase opportunities for people to engage with the arts. Live entertainment is such a unique way to bring people together and foster community, and I believe everyone should have the chance to participate and engage with art that they love.In my years at University of Maryland, I began building my resume through a number of angles: performing in and managing The Mild Animals, starting the first student-run record label in the state of Maryland, and hosting DIY shows and festivals out of my own backyard and basement. After graduating, I quickly began trying my hand at various roles in the industry. With my first job at Rock & Roll Hotel in DC, I rose from Box Office Manager all the way to Principal Talent Buyer in less than two years. I never shy away from expanding my skill set, and I am always ready to jump at a new opportunity.With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, my first foray as an entertainment professional came to an unfortunate and abrupt end. After taking some time to recalibrate, I settled into marketing as a field where my promotional skills could be transferred to new horizons. After some time away, I was eager to return to the industry I had been working towards, and I found an exciting opportunity at the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore. In this role, I have been able to actualize both skills and personal goals as an arts administrator - while still maintaining a hands-on role in running shows. I have grown so much as a manager, leader, and administrator in my tenure, and I hope to continue climbing my way up through the entertainment industry. As they say - the show must go on!
