Asmaa Kamel has been creating and stimulating change from within organisations, for more than 15 years, to support and advance the work of socially-focused enterprises. An engineer by training, Asmaa was part of the founding teams for both the Technical Specifications Unit of the Egyptian Ministry of Health & Population in 2006 and one of the first Technology Transfer Offices in a public university in 2010. She also pioneered the launch of Educate Me pre-school program in 2013, besides launching her own initiative to provide an Arabic literacy program for primary school pupils. Asmaa holds a master’s degree in Global Enterprise & Entrepreneurship from Southampton University, UK where her dissertation involved a qualitative research investigating the Motives, Benefits, and Challenges of Enterprising Activities undertaken by Voluntary and Charitable Organisations in Egypt and the UK. Her other research experience includes a master’s degree in Systems and Biomedical Engineering from Cairo University in 2012 and working as a research fellow in the Institute Cultural Anthropology, University of Hamburg on matters related to social entrepreneurship, resilience, and sustainability. As an executive professional, Asmaa held the role of Yomken.com Programme Manager for two years, where she managed daily operations with the team and relevant stakeholders at a time during which the organisation expanded its operations to three new countries in the region. She has led projects with national and international partners, including the ASRT, GIZ, and USAID and worked closely with innovators supporting their endeavours to start businesses around innovative solutions driven by market demand. On an ongoing basis, Asmaa advises charities and voluntary groups on implementing business practices to incite social change while ensuring sustainability, in addition to delivering trainings and coaching on innovation and entrepreneurship to university students, early stage startups, governmental employees, and industry personnel.
