Evaluation of environmental policies, in particular the River Basin Management Plans for the Water Framework Directive (see presentation), the Dutch Manure and Fertilizer Policy and the Dutch Policy Plan on Sustainable Crop Protection. Member of Dutch and European working groups dealing with the harmonised risk-assessment of pesticides. One of the developers of the PEARL and GeoPEARL pesticide leaching models, which are used for the authorisation of pesticides in Europe and the Netherlands. Coordination of the development of hydrological and water quality models used by the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency.

In the European Union, the use of pesticides is regulated and all EU Member States apply the same evaluation procedures and authorisation criteria in order to place a plant protection product on the market. EFSA’s Panel on Plant Protection Products and their Residues (PPR) provides scientific advice on the risk assessment of pesticides, including the development of risk assessment methodologies. Within the context of the Panel, my primary field of expertise is pesticide fate in soils, surface water and groundwater.
