About Audrey Davidson Thévenon
Audrey D. Thévenon, Ph.D., is a Program Officer with the Board on Life Sciences and the Managing Editor for the Institute for Laboratory Animal Research Journal at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Since joining the Academies, Dr. Thévenon has been involved in activities to support the Department of Defense’s programs to counter biological threats, to inform about the potential risks and benefits of gain-of-function research and supported a study on Gene Drive research in non-human organisms among others. Over the past few years, she has also been involved in collaborative regional and international activities aimed at promoting transdisciplinary research in Africa and Asia. Recently she organized a conference in Malaysia to promote safe and secure science attended by biological and social scientists from 14 countries. Currently, she leads a study on Biological Collections and a One-Health fellowship program to prevent and respond to zoonotic disease outbreaks in Pakistan in collaboration with Kenya, Thailand, and Singapore. Dr. Thévenon has a M.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology with a focus on human reproduction from the Université de Rennes 1 in France, and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Biology with a specialization in tropical medicine and immunology from Georgetown University. Prior to arriving at the National Academy of Sciences, Dr. Thévenon served as a Research Assistant at the University of Hawaii, where she worked on malaria vaccine development. She then worked at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD on 2 PEPFAR-funded HIV-Malaria projects in collaboration with Nigeria and Kenya.
