For the past 6 years I have been a member of the National Guard at Barnes ANG base and also have been a full-time student at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.During this time I have been sent out and experienced technical and leadership training and on-the-job experience in the working field in both deployment and non-deployment settings. More specifically I was deployed for a Riot Control task force under Operation Capitol Response II. Because of my contribution of leadership and service, I was awarded both the Armed Forces Service Medal and the Air Force Achievement medal.I have also spent countless hours volunteering back home for VA functions, Boy Scouts of America service projects and American Legion activities to give back to the community I grew up in. These experiences not only have propelled me into positions of leadership and supervision but have given me opportunities to manage personnel and funding. All of which are experiences I still build off of to this day as I continue to work with others in these organizations.Despite my military interruptions, I am still frivolously pursuing my bachelor's in Public Health with a secondary major in Environmental Science. As a rising senior, I have been accepted into the University of Massachusett's 4+1 Accelerated Masters of Science program for Environmental Health and have begun pursuing my MS during my undergraduate program.After accomplishing my MS I hope to apply and use my experience in a direct application with the United States Public Health Services as an officer. But I am still weighing my decisions as to what opportunities will be the best to enable me to continue to learn, and to help others directly through my work. I hope to be able to put myself into a position that can help affect the health of those around me positively while also making a larger impact in the world.
