Journey 2050 Education Coordinator

Journey 2050 takes students on a virtual farm simulation that explores world food sustainability. Using an inquiry based approach the program encourages students to make decisions and adjust them as they see their impact on society, the environment and the economy at a local and global scale. The students hear from farmers across the globe. As the Education Coordinator, I work with a team of educators to ensure the program runs smoothly while continually improving the content and delivery. I help to connect with the community to provide further resources and opportunities for learners to explore and put their knowledge into action.

To achieve these goals, I revamped and re-commissioned several environmental programs while creating new programs resulting in both internal reduction and external education.Developed an employee education program based around sustainability aimed at including employees in the continual improvement of the stampedes environmental programs, this resulted in increased multidepartment environmental initiatives led by multiple levels of employees from directors to part time staff helping to decrease the environmental impact of the Stampede. Tracked environmental data to assess risk across Stampede Park to develop impact reports and strategic plans for the executive team and the board of directors ensuring the continual improvement of the companies’ environmental impacts.

YDCR is funded by the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada. Exploring how design thinking and education models can help empower youth to develop community-centred climate resilience solutions. YDCR is a collaborative project between Royal Roads University, the University of British Columbia, and the University of Puerto Rico.
