I edit stories for tone and voice, fact check, line edit, and procure art assets. I also helped hire, train, and supervise a team of contractors who publish the content on our part of the website.

As an Editorial Assistant for Capital One Auto Navigator, the brand's automotive editorial outlet, I wore a bunch of different hats from day-to-day, but was energized by the opportunity to build up a brand in the automotive world as the company scales it up. I started as a contractor and was converted to a full-time employee.

My writing has appeared in the pages of Super Street, Diesel Power, and Automobile magazine. Those with websites posted my writing online. For a few years I was a regular contributor to a number of Internet Brands Automotive sites, including Honda-Tech and 6speedonline. I have also published several features on Hagerty's website.My most recent contributions have been writing news for Edmunds and reviews for The Drive's Gear section. Miles City

I ran the Coatings shop at Transco in Miles City. I had between 4 and 14 direct reports at different times, once across two shifts. As I ran the abrasive blasting and coatings department, I tried to lead, not just be a boss. I like to strike a balance that allows me to push my team to hit the production goals set out by my manager, but with a heavy hand towards culture and belonging: it showed in my turnover record. My goal is always to remain humble and to "own" my mistakes, yet hold people accountable when they mess up by helping them learn why a mistake was made, and how to prevent it from happening again.Accomplishments: established department after complete loss of institutional knowledge (prior staff exodus 2016); started 2nd shift for coatings/blasting operation; trained up leaders. I was appointed in June of 2019 to fill out the term for a councilman who retired, then won election for a four year term (2020-2024) as City Council Member for Ward 4 in Miles City, MT. I chose to move out of my Ward in April of 2021 and resigned at that time. In 2020 I was Chairman of Finance and Public Safety; in 2021 I was appointed as Council President and Chairman of Finance. During my time I worked on improving and building city-county relations and cooperation; helped the city government navigate the budget side of the pandemic, and increased transparency in the city budget.

I covered the business and local government beats for the local newspaper. The Star (at that time, published 5x per week, Mon-Fri) is an evening paper, going out around 4 pm, which allowed us to cover breaking local news in a way that others regional papers could not.Skills: interviewing, quick turnaround, photography (action, event, newspaper-style portrait), copyediting, proofing (print/digital), long- and short-form storytelling.

Billings, Montana Area

I was the lead coatings applicator for Transco Railway Products in Miles City, Montana. We had two abrasive blasting booths and two spray booths run with a team of between 4 and 8 professionals (depending on staffing needs). We sprayed both exteriors and interior linings for several varieties of rail cars: tanks, hoppers, and occasionally box cars.Skills: Interior and Exterior Coatings application, heavy equipment operation.

Los Angeles - El Segundo

I was part of the In-Market Auto Group (New Cars) and worked on the new vehicle buyers guide for Motor Trend and Automobile Magazine's websites. Annually helped to produce the New Car and SUV and New Truck Buyer's Guides, which were two of the best-selling issues each year. Wrote a number of new vehicle reviews (several made it into the print magazine), produced news articles, and wrote countless listicles (Top 10 lists). Lead "The Goods" product spotlight section and had a blast playing with, and featuring, some awesome gear.Skills: magazine-style writing, photography assistant, photo editing, content management systems (WordPress), racetrack driving, new vehicle reviews, news stories, writing for target length, copywriting.
