About Ava Hedeker

Ardent about equitable transit-oriented development, nature-based solutions, and environmental sociology, I strive to pursue a career in urban planning to help design systems that make sustainability (or as my past professor Neil Brenner puts it, 'environmentally-sane') the norm. Attending panels at COP28 about urban planners' experience developing the mixed-use community of Expo City Dubai, co-leading a research project regarding the health disparities in Hyde Park's public transit, and leveraging my experience of living in Chicago my whole life (not the suburbs don't worry) are some ways that I am learning the nuances behind ensuring that existing cities prioritize the environment and pedestrians.
