Coordinator Of Technology, Testing, & Accountability
I was the Coordinator of Technology, Testing, & Accountability for Alternative Education programs at the Santa Cruz County Office of Education. Our organization offers 24 unique academic programs at 19 different school sites throughout Santa Cruz County. The ultimate goal of our programs is to ensure that every student in our County has access to an educational setting that suits the individual student's needs. This is accomplished through a variety of locations, educational models, and programmatic structures. The vast majority of our students come to us struggling with one or more significant life challenges. Frequently, these include drug and alcohol abuse, homelessness, criminal activity, truancy, expulsion, poverty, lack of fluency in English, academic failure, and trauma. My background is that of a teacher-leader, I integrated digital media into my own Alternative Education and Elementary School classrooms while training other teachers how to use new technologies to support student success. For more than a decade I worked at the County Office level, designing workshops and trainings for teachers and administrators, providing leadership on new technologies, and assisting districts with technology planning. I am passionate about the power of education technology in providing opportunity, equity of access, and options for all students regardless of their background or challenges.
Coordinator, Curriculum & Instruction
I previously worked as a Coordinator of Curriculum & Instruction for the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, where I provided professional development and technical assistance in the areas of curriculum, instruction, education technology, and science & engineering. During my eight years in this former position I established job-embedded, professional learning programs, including "Tech Cadres" that, after 5 years of implementation, impacted over 300 of our local teachers. The Technology Integration Cadres were designed to support teachers on a yearlong journey of professional learning organized around foundational topics in education technology. I have received Leading Edge Certification for all four of the areas of certification offered by LEC: Online & Blended Teacher, Digital Educator, Administrator, & Professional Learning Leader, and am a certified trainer for LEC. I also coordinated all aspects of our countywide Science & Engineering Fair for seven years, providing thousands of students with the opportunity to share their projects with each other and volunteer judges representing local scientists, university research staff, educators, graduate students and community partners. This annual event promotes high quality student research in science and engineering in Santa Cruz County schools, and provides opportunities for advancement of finalists to state and international science and engineering competitions. My role in curriculum & instruction involved planning and delivering professional learning that supported the implementation of Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards. In addition to these achievements I was also the lead of annual monitoring for Williams Legislation and the regional support contact for many California Department of Education (CDE) and California County Superintendents Educational Services Association (CCSESA) initiatives.
Coordinator Of Education Technology
· In my role as Coordinator of Education Technology, I led and supported the design and implementation of countywide teacher and administrator professional learning programs. I was also responsible for grants management and technology use planning for Los Angeles County school districts. I successfully coordinated the development and delivery of technology integration workshops that included topics such as digital media production, online learning resources, digital storytelling, mobile technologies, project-based learning, and web 2.0 applications.
Teacher
· I have five years of experience as an elementary school classroom teacher in the Covina-Valley Unified School District where I taught 5th grade and implemented a summer school program for students whose primary language was Spanish (grades 3-5). In addition, I was recognized for my leadership role in the area of instructional resources and technology. While teaching I gained site administrative experience while working on leadership committees including: the School Site Council, Coordinated Compliance Review Committee, Technology Use Planning Committeeand Library Media Center Development Committee.
