Over the last 3 years of working at WeTransfer, I've learned that the people here fundamentally believe in relieving creative people of unnecessarily arduous tasks, so they can focus on the work that matters. 10 years ago, the most mundane, problematic and time-consuming problem creative people faced was actually getting the file from A to B. Now, their problems are different. And they are much more. Tools and platforms exist to allow anyone to collaborate with anyone. The gig economy is soaring. Creative people are going freelance, and agencies are downsizing because they can outsource work. Herein lies the problem. How can WeTransfer provide a means for freelancers and clients to collaborate seamlessly, allowing for flexibility, so that everyone has time, space and confidence to work on the work that matters? WeTransfer 'Projects'. Coming soon to a gig near you...

Product Manager

Amsterdam Area, Netherlands

After we launching the sketch integration, the CTO offered me the role of Product Manager for a new team—Partnerships and Integrations. We tried a few more, and then realised that we can never really know what integrations our users need, until we understand the users first. So we took a step back, and restarted a Public API. This would act as a platform for users to integrate WeTransfer, wherever they needed it. Here we could create a solid strategy to grow. A means to discover new business opportunities through usage insights. Acting as a mini startup, with me as front of house for insights and customer helpdesk, and my team as helpline for technical assistance, we grew a deep connection with our users and understood them on an intimate and exciting level. We learned of new problems our users face, where they face them, and conceptualised ways we can solve them. I learned also of how other product companies are solving their users’ problems, in similar ways, and of the benefits they reap from capitalising off it.

Working on the growth team, I worked with a researcher and business analyst to understand where creative people were working, and how. We learned a lot, but most interestingly we discovered a trend we thought we ought to tap into — product integrations. We started small, with a nifty little sketch integration that allowed you to whizz a selected artboard into a WeTransfer link, taking all the symbols with it, so you can share it without having to disrupt your flow (as much).
