I usually work with the child and parent as a team. I often mentor a "coach" as part of the team, who has taken my classes and is working to become a private therapist. I also teach 3 levels of classes in "Linguistic Remedies for Reading Disabilities " to teachers and parents, in order to train more teachers to become skilled at helping more children with reading difficulties to become eager and independent readers. Finally, I consult with software companies and school districts on programs and educational questions.

I was Principal Investigator on 4 federally funded grants since 2000 at CLEAR (Computational Language and EducAtional Research), leading a team of researchers studying computer-based reading interventions and assessments for children with reading difficulties. Prior to that I collaborated on intervention research with talking computers at Institute of Behavior Genetics. All this research helped clarify questions about how best to teach children with reading difficulties, with or without computers.
