Tokio Marine HCC had commenced a large transformation Programme to enhance and replace their Policy Administration Systems (PAS) across a number of specialist lines of business. Engaged initially to build and lead a task force to manage the delivery of significant defect resolution and functionality enhancements to a recently replaced PAS in the Trade Credit division – this project completed delivering a robust system and operating model to support business development. I then transferred to the Surety division and created a project to source a new PAS to support this niche market – end to end project management including RFP process, contract development and onboarding of both project and external vendor development teams. Successfully delivered the MVP for the new PAS, including integration to replacement systems for sub-ledger and claims and supported transition to a continuous improvement model for future functionality improvements.

Pension Insurance Corporation (PIC) has seen significant growth over recent years and initiated a Finance Transformation Programme to work across the business and deliver significant system, process and data management improvements. Engaged to lead the IFRS17 aspects of the Programme to deliver future statutory reporting compliance. Project management of numerous workstreams including methodology, transitions, financial impacts, actuarial model change and automation, data readiness, Contractual Service Margin (CSM) tool selection and implementation, disclosures, testing and parallel runs and business readiness and embedding. Responsible for project delivery working with workstream leads and reporting to the Finance Programme Director and Steering Committee.

Aviva Group was delivering a significant programme of digital change to transform the business and drive continued innovation for both individual customers and corporate clients. Engaged to deliver a number of projects (under an Agile project methodology) including Cloud (AWS) web and mobile application based portals (integrated to Hadoop and Data Lake) for clients of both Aviva Investors and Global Claims & Risks. Managed the delivery of a number of platform teams through a scrum of scrums approach covering: requirements; development; test and go-live.

Phoenix acquired Abbey Life for £935M in Dec 2016 and developed a Programme to integrate the business into the Phoenix Target Operating Model and drive significant capital efficiencies. Engaged to lead a project within Group Actuarial to deliver circa £500M of capital benefit within 2 years of ownership. Activities included: the application for Abbey Solvency II Internal Model, Transitional Arrangements and revised Capital Management Policy; enhancement of Matching Adjustments portfolio and Management Actions (investment strategy, pension scheme novation and internal reinsurance). Dividends generated for 2017 totalled £240M and the delivery of the Internal Model application and internal reinsurance secured the projected dividends of £250M in 2018. Initial review of IFRS17 project requirements.

Tate & Lyle had recently undergone significant system and process improvements to streamline the global business. Engaged to lead further SAP system enhancements and process improvements across all functional areas to drive reporting quality, process efficiency and update the Risk and Controls Matrix (automated and manual controls) to best practice standards. The project delivered all objectives resulting in a revised Target Operating Model within Shared Services, cost reductions and a more robust control environment leading to reduced audit review and fees.

The Aviva Solvency II programme was approaching a critical delivery phase of the production of the Group internal model application. Engaged to lead the IMAP project to support the application for the newly created on-shore re-insurance entity; delivered lead project management support to both the Actuarial / Risk teams; developed systems and processes to deliver robust Solvency II financial results; completed the Common Application Package (CAP); managed independent model validation with Internal Audit / PwC; managed Weakness and Limitations; implemented a new Target Operating Model (TOM). The IMAP for Aviva Group was successfully delivered to and approved by the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA).

Tate & Lyle Genesis Programme was initiated to drive a global way of working across both systems and processes. Engaged to lead EMEA Finance through stabilisation following a SAP go-live; management of change in Global Shared Service centre; delivered significant process improvement including accelerated period closing; managed requirements for second SAP release; lead on VAT project. Efforts resulted in stable and efficient reporting and improved processes and controls across the EMEA base.

Phoenix Group initiated major programme to meet new Solvency II reporting requirements that were being rolled out across European insurance companies. Engaged to review regulatory impacts and develop infrastructure for new reporting regime across both Life & Group Finance and Corporate Actuarial. Developed new processes; developed accounting and data warehouse systems; created Finance systems framework and IT systems architecture; managed Investments change; and made changes to 3rd-party supplier / outsourcer contracts. Implemented all regulatory changes (announced to date) and generated year-end reports on Solvency II basis; results presented to Life & Group Boards.

Swiss Re signed policy outsourcing deal with Aviva to transfer 2.8 million closed book policies from 8 main systems at Aviva to single system at their internal division, Admin Re. Engaged to deliver Finance Workstream encompassing General Ledger, Treasury, and Banking. Led 15 project managers, business analysts, test managers, and SMEs in developing policy administration system and Oracle General Ledger. Drove seamless project migrations; created shared service team; developed systems. Programme delivered £100m in new annual revenue.

Northgate acquired SX3 managed service IT company based in Ireland and decided to transition to single IT platform, SAP. Tasked to report to Programme Director and serve as Project Manager and SME to lead FICO and SAP projects and deliver integrated system. Piloted project from initial feasibility study to “go live;” built 14-member team; and administered £2.5m budget. Delivered new SAP solution, decommissioned legacy systems, and generated £2m annual cost savings in administrative and labour expenses.

Northgate was aggressively acquiring new companies and targeted SX3 as acquisition. As Divisional Finance Director, role was to support Managing Director by providing finance expertise during due diligence process, identifying issues, and supporting bidding process. Conducted detailed review of SX3’s finances including profitability, customer contracts, and balance sheet provisions. Efforts resulted in successful £155m acquisition, £50m annual revenue increase, and £5m in integration headcount savings.As Divisional Finance Director, identified cost-saving opportunity to close HR and Finance functions of US-based software company owned by Northgate and transfer roles to UK. Tasked with moving bespoke accounting system and creating new processes to ensure minimal impact to US customers and suppliers. Made monthly visits to US to determine feasibility; created transition plan; and served as US audit and bank liaison. Successfully transferred functions and systems to new UK team, and delivered £500k in annual cost-savings.

After Iveco Spa acquired Seddon Atkinson Vehicles, it needed to align Seddon Atkinson’s manufacturing and reporting processes with its own business model. Transferred to Turin, Italy for 2 years to drive integration improvement efforts, streamline financial reporting, and overhaul parts business utilizing Iveco Spa-approved suppliers. Introduced new Hyperion reporting system; integrated Iveco and Seddon Atkinson parts businesses; and secured new suppliers. Increased margins 10%; cut costs by £5m per year; and enhanced commercial viability of Seddon Atkinson.
