Research and Development of new battery pack technologies for marine applications up to TRL 6

Development of a compression device, to optimise solid state lithium metal cells lifecyle performance.

Led the mechanical development of the next-generation high-voltage marine battery pack and module with passive thermal propagation prevention, groundbreaking energy density, and specific energy.Led the mechanical design team on the project supported by two mechanical engineers, coordinated with simulation/requirement/test/electrical and certification engineers. Owned short-term planning and goal-setting of mechanical development. Assessment and selection of large NMC 622 and 811 cells used in battery module (A123, LG chemical, Northvolt, SKI).Module concept development and selection.Translation of system-level requirements into sub-system and part-level requirements.Design of Experiment leading to passive thermal propagation prevention for large prismatic NMC 622 cells using overcharging or overheating (designed devices under test and mechanical test setups). Supported post-mortem analysis.Design of module in Solidworks resulting in 2 patents related to passive thermal propagation prevention.Selected suppliers, developed supplier relationships, and coordinated sub-system and part development, including rolbonded cold plate, large flexible circuit board, busbars, cell-to-cell thermal insulation, thermal spreader, and gas exhaust system.Applied DFMA principles on battery modules resulting in a part number reduction of 63% compared to the previous generation battery packs in production.Coördinaten with manufacturing and process engineers, defined assembly and production processes and implemented design changes to make the product ready for automated assembly.

Technical development of Residential Energy Storage System(RESS), focus on the mechanical design of high voltage battery packs including thermal & structural analysis, FMEA. The main design drivers were DFMA and design for cost. Choice of production techniques and technical requirements. Designed analog electronics and electrical circuits within the battery pack. Selection of cell assembly technique and design of wire bonding pattern for cell assembly. Made the major engineering decisions regarding hardware architecture.
