Battery Control System Integration Engineer
In my current role, I take on the exciting challenge of developing, implementing, and validating complex mathematical models and control systems for our cutting-edge battery management system (BMS). My primary focus lies in ensuring seamless documentation and comprehensive understanding of the BMS.As a key member of the team, my specific responsibilities revolve around designing and validating the current limit control algorithm for the next generation BMS. This role encompasses various tasks, starting from defining requirements and designing mathematical control system models to ensuring their implementation and validation using automated model-in-loop test implementations and rigorous systems level testing. In addition to these critical functions, I am also deeply involved in conducting system level testing and fault analysis. My work extends to creating informative systems level diagrams, as well as creating internal and external technical documentation to ensure effective knowledge sharing.
Test Engineer
Testing and certifying newly developed products to international marine safety standards. Value adding by providing design input and feedback, while cost effectively certifying products to strict standards.Specialized in thermal runaway testing of lithium ion battery systems ranging from 9.6 Wh to 43 KWh, including: certification testing, cell and system level isolation testing, deliberate propagation testing, and design validation testing.
Test Engineering Co-Op
Testing and certifying newly developed products to international marine safety standards. Value adding by providing design input and feedback, while cost effectively certifying products to strict standards. Some of the tests I ran were: vibration certification, IP testing, thermal performance testing, and thermal runaway. During my Co-op I focused on creating vibration jigs for certification testing on equipment ranging from 5 kilograms to several thousand kilograms. The jigs were designed to replicate real world mounting scenarios coupled to various external vibe table designs. The jigs themselves could not cause any major resonances within the system in any axis during testing. This was done in a cost effective manor by utilizing FEA and direct manufacturer communication to produce optimal jigs. They were successfully utilized in vibration testing of multiple different Corvus products.
Controls And Ergonomics Team Member
Dedicated to improving the driver comfort, drive ability and reliability of the Formula UBC SAE Racing car. Created an automated pneumatic clutch system utilizing a slip on leveraged design. The design improved car shifting speed, consistency and allowed driver adjustable clutch release speed. The design also provided a fail safe such that it did not interfere with manual clutch application in case of system failure.
Maintenance Engineering Student Assistant
Assisting the engineers of CMBC in: component design, quality control, and major trouble shooting operations. Other major tasks include: designing and organizing tests, coordinating fleet modifications, and assisting the project management team on new bus deliveries. My tasks have allowed me to hold new assets to a high standard of quality, while learning a wide range of skills. Such skills include, learning to design for manufacturing, experience creating data logging using Arduinos, even coding web-scrapers with Python.
Propeller Team Member
Designed and tested various contra-rotating propeller designs, optimized for thrust output at low RPM. Through the use of Excel Simulations, 3D modeling with Solidworks, and rigorous physical prototyping a noteworthy set of competition ready propellers were produced. -See Projects for more details!
