I was taught photography when I was a kid by my granddad, and it was the first form of self-motivated art that I practiced. I took pictures of the usual items: the cat, a street lamp, the car in the garage, etc. I was intrigued by photography, but my inability to travel, explore, and acquire the resources necessary to learn and experiment put a damper on things. I switched over to music at that point, taking up the drums and bass. This is where I learned about creating with “concepts,” although I didn’t realize that until years later. I always enjoyed having a meaning behind lyrics or a certain piece of music. This love of concept still holds true today in my visual art. I love creating a story behind an image, or a deeper connection with a design.Going to college to be a rock star didn’t pan out though, and after meandering around Monterey, CA for a while, taking classes and reconnecting with photography, I realized what I wanted to do. I wanted to combine the story telling and communication aspect of music with the visual nature of photography by studying graphic design.
