As a researcher at Philips, my main responsibility is the development of innovative applications in the field of consumer electronics. Partially this is done by identifying promising scientific trends and developments and developing these to a level that they are easy to use for customers and solve actual consumer needs, but also an important part is performing original research. I've worked on several projects, ranging from automatic analysis of television and movie content to analysis and understanding of electrical brain signals.

I worked on a topic in physical chemistry having to do with phase separation of charged colloidal suspensions. Basically, we wanted to find out if charged colloids at room temperature could spontaneously separate into a gaseous and an liquid phase, and if so, under which conditions this could occur.My thesis is titled: "Phase behavior of charged colloids: many-body effects, charge renormalization and charge regulation" (see link above).
