Exhibition CuratorWellcome Connecting Science Public Engagement Jan 2015 - Aug 2018Cambridge, United KingdomI joined the Wellcome Genome Campus Public Engagement team in the new role of Exhibition Curator to create and deliver a new exhibition space for the campus and shape a rolling programme of inspiring exhibitions and associated events. The space marked its first anniversary in October 2016 and the focus of my role now is to build on this first year of programming to broaden the audience and reach of the Public Engagement strategy and help shape our broader strategy for cultural engagement. To achieve this I work closely with my Public Engagement colleagues, the Director of Connecting Science, and researchers across campus to translate the science, history and social implications of genomics research into engaging and informative exhibitions. My core responsibilities are:Working with artists, designers and other collaborators to produce engaging works and exhibits.In conjunction with the Head of Public Engagement agree exhibition budgets, develop and issue exhibition documentation, contracting collaborators and purchasing works.Taking responsibility for the day-to-day management of the delivery of exhibits including planning, installation, maintenance and de-installation, co-ordination and liaison with consultants and contractors.Organising loans, including negotiating terms, conservation, display, transport, etc. Ensuring that all necessary records are in place and, where appropriate, adherence to regulations related to public exhibition.Using social media and seeking other promotional opportunities to give a stronger presence and profile for the work of Wellcome Genome Campus Public Engagement. -
Exhibitions Project ManagerMuseum Of London Aug 2011 - Dec 2014London, United Kingdom• Delivering a rolling programme of major and smaller exhibitions across two museums, from exhibition concept to opening and operational maintenance, with project budgets of £1k to £600k.• Sherlock Holmes, 2014: working with the Major Exhibitions Manager my final project at the Museum was the major exhibition, Sherlock Holmes, which opened in October 2014. I managed the creative requirements and budget for the software production of the exhibition’s audio-visual exhibits. I coordinated the content group to devise, research and manage the exhibition content and interpretation approach. Working with the Exhibition Curator I devised the text hierarchy and outline and managed the text approvals process. I coordinated the work of curators, conservators, designers and technicians to ensure that the vision for an exciting, dynamic and engaging exhibition was realised. • Doctors, Dissection and Resurrection Men, 2012: this major exhibition presented new archaeological and osteological finds; revealing and exploring London’s medical past and issues of medical ethics. My role was to utilise a variety of interpretation methods and exhibition design to ensure that a general audience could successfully engage with this complex subject. Displaying human remains meant that the interpretation and design needed to conform to the museum’s human remains policy and the Human Tissue Act.• I have been the lead project manager on many exhibitions and displays across a wide variety of subjects and content. These have included commissioning new artworks and installations, negotiating loans and working with external partners and community engagement. -
