Over the last ten months as a General Manager for Chipotle Mexican Grill, I took a store that was surviving at twelve crew members short while being led by the remaining kitchen managers. I oversaw thirteen promotions from eight employees, in that ten month time period, as well as organized and directed the execution of the largest catering order in company history.

On top of any task you could come up with to run and maintain a typical family's home, we also were in charge of filling out a daily logs for each child as well as the household in regard to behaviors, interactions, activities, and overall vibe of the milieu. In addition to the logs, we filled out detailed charts on the meds we dispensed to the kids; behavior logs on any incidents or accomplishments; kept a log of finances for the house as well as each child's allowance and house petty cash fund; reported and filed statements about each child's planned visits and phone calls with biological parents/guardians; planned, transported and contributed to each child's counseling, therapy, and family support team meetings. Besides caring for the children, organizing the home and doing the paperwork end of things, we also had the opportunity to work on organizing volunteer efforts at the children's home and be involved in donor public-relations efforts as well as fundraising and benefit activities. The most rewarding part, by far, was being able to dig in and build a pseudo-parent relationship with each child; learn about their hopes, dreams, struggles, anxieties and hang-ups; come up with an action plan to accomplish any and all goals the child had for themselves (as well as make realistic suggestions) and then walk them through the plan to achieving their goals. Crossing the finish-line after each and every goal- no matter how big (being the first EVER in their family to graduate college) or how small (not getting frustrated by a little brother)- was always a victory. Over three years we saw twenty-three children in and out of our home, one adoption, three high school graduates, one college graduate, one current United States Marine Corporal, and multiple successful replacements back to biological families. Our cup continues to overflow from the young lives that touched ours over those three years.
