I lead a team developing plug-in technologies to improve geomodelling workflows. I lead a team of 20 people as we developed and launched two software products and developed a third to prototype, all of which targeted pain points in the current industry standard geomodelling workflows. As Managing Director, I was involved in every aspect of the business. The first two products developed by the company where initially designed and developed by me. I worked directly with our academic partners to gather potential client and then user feedback and requirements and managed these key relationships. I helped to develop, define and implement our marketing strategy.

Scarabus Consulting comprises a small group of experienced geological modellers with a deep understanding of the appropriate level of geological modelling required in order to develop realistic field development plans, required to support business investment decisions. We specialise in working with clients to develop geologically defensible models, founded on rigorous assurance of input data, sound structural modelling and clear understanding of the business decisions that the models are to support. Furthermore, through the integration of key subsurface uncertainties, the quality of the models we generate is superior to many built by those without our in depth knowledge of uncertainties and data dependencies. By leveraging the latest uncertainty and optimisation technologies, we tackle historically difficult problems such as structural uncertainty, to generate realistic volume ranges, founded only on geologically plausible realisations. We also have considerable experience in transferring our models back to our clients in order to help them further develop their modelling skills and ensure their ownership for our results. I currently have a dual role within Shell, splitting my time between the Production Geoscience Team and working as a Workflow and Modelling Consultant. The latter role involves working with Exploration and Development teams to work up stochastic model-based volumetrics along with fault modelling and fault property analysis for trap risking. I recently developed a new novel approach to PBE mapping which enabled faster and more robust PBE studies. Whilst working with the Production community I have written and implemented numerous uncertainty and optimization studies on major gas fields. I also helped define and refine the current Structural Uncertainty Analysis workflows used within Shell. As a Workflow and Modelling Consultant a good proportion of my time is spent training and coaching junior staff and/or working with senior staff to implement new approaches or technologies. Recognition of my work and expertise has resulted in me becoming the European regional focal point for static modelling building in Shell. I am now responsible for development of a Shell Ocean module for pressure plotting; however I continue to be the global point of contact for several key propriety modules for trap analysis and risking.

Employment with Schlumberger as a Geologist working with BG-Group, where I worked alongside BG-Group Exploration and Development subsurface professionals as a consultant. My key responsibility was to improve and enhance the methods employed by BGs’ teams to complete their projects faster and provide more reliable results. Working closely with BG Advance (BG’s research and advanced workflow group) I helped develop new techniques to bridge the gap between recent academic advances and practical exploration and development practises.
