Senior Staff Development Geologist

Current
Oxy

Lead geologist of the Wasson Clearfork reservoir trend and mentor to a new hire geologist out of school who recently joined our team. Working with an integrated team to develop and waterflood the Leonardian Clearfork formation and explore the potential for CO2 flood. • Responsible for planning producer and injector wells, well surveillance and waterflood conformance, and assisting with the modeling and planning of a CO2 pilot and the potential future CO2 development of the Wasson Clearfork units. Planned and oversaw the drilling of four horizontal producers to develop the reservoir beneath Denver City, where vertical development was not feasible.• Identified shortcomings in the saturation model and worked with petrophysics to correct them. Built a new geomodel for Yoakum, Gaines and South Wasson that incorporated the updated saturation model, additional offset data, refined correlations and improved petrophysics. Work to update the POWC and FWL for the saturation models is currently ongoing. • Identified over 30 previously unknown Clearfork producers and corrected the location of many others within the units. This proved up areas where development had been written off and increased our understanding of the performance of more recent development. • Updated and corrected perforation data for all wells in Yoakum and Gaines Wasson Units and classified them based on workover campaign as well as by production and injection. I used this to create completion maps that identify the produced, tested, and injected formations by well. These maps are used to identify new development locations and workover opportunities as well as for pattern and waterflood conformance and maintenance. This work is ongoing for other units.

Feb 2019 - Present

Senior Exploration Geologist

Oxy

Exploration geologist working on the Colombia, South America, team tasked with growing Oxy's net production in Colombia through organic growth, acquisition, and exploration opportunities. • An initial member of the small Colombia Growth Initiative team created to identify and appraise opportunities for expanding Oxy’s production in Colombia.• Responsible for extensive basin-wide studies and creating field models used to identify and appraise potential development and exploration opportunities. Structure and reservoir models were created using public domain data and vintage data found in Oxy's Central Records; preliminary development plans created from these models provided base case economics for potential acquisition candidates.

Apr 2016 - Feb 2019

Staff Development Geologist

Oxy

Development geologist working within an integrated team to develop the Wolfbone Formation on Oxy’s core acreage in the Texas Delaware basin. • Responsible for planning horizontal wells, well surveillance of operated and offset competitor acreage and assisting with the development plan of existing acreage. • Identified and corrected datum elevation discrepancies within the database that caused multiple unexpected changes to the well plan due to formation tops not coming in as prognosed.• Sub-divided the primary target into several zones through detailed correlation and created and maintained a landing zone database for the all the existing horizontal wells in the area, both on and off lease. This provided a uniform method for tracking the specific landing point and lateral placement of wells within the targeted reservoir and allowed for better field wide comparison of well performance and productivity.

Mar 2015 - Apr 2016

Lead Development Geologist

Oxy

Houston, Tx

Lead geologist for Mariposa and George West Fields, and co-geologist for Javelina Field working as part of an integrated team charged with developing stacked pay in Vicksburg tight gas sands. • Responsible for identifying and proposing new wells, and then for providing operational oversight during their drilling and completing phase. • Took an abandoned, poorly developed, unappealing lease and turned it into one of the most active and productive leases in Oxy’s South Texas portfolio. • Developed a sound geologic understanding for each project area through in-depth well correlations and the generation of detailed cross sections, structure maps and isopach maps.• Compared reservoir characteristics from electric logs and special core analysis to well production results, tests, and samples in order to fine tune our petrophysical model. • Drilled over 20 successful wells handling all geological responsibilities from conception to completion, including the first Vicksburg horizontal well in the region. • Responsible for updating and maintaining reserves classification and documentation.• Researched legacy completion techniques and utilized general well surveillance to optimize Oxy’s reservoir stimulation strategies and reduce costs. • Screened acquisition candidates around active leases and made recommendations to Oxy’s business development group in an effort to expand our productive acreage position. • Responsible for preparing material and making frequent presentations to peers, our development manager, and the general manager of Oxy’s South Texas Business Unit. Presentations ranged from well reviews to drilling and completion proposals and post audit reviews.
