I worked as a research assistant in the Composites Lab on campus. I was assigned to a project studying the effects of surface contaminants on the bonding between glass fiber composites. There I was responsible for developing testing procedures, manufacturing the test specimens, testing them according to ASTM standards, and organizing the collected data in Excel and MATLAB. I learned how to operate and test coupons in an Instron load frame, a Differential Scanning Calorimeter, and an Optical Tensiometer.

At Pacific Fighters I worked as part of a team of world-renowned antique aircraft experts, where I learned skills relevant to aircraft restoration and construction. I learned most of my practical problem solving, organization, and teamwork skills working here. Every task had some new element that I had never encountered and someone depending on the completion of the task. I was responsible for cleaning aircraft, removing paint, preparing parts for paint, and assisting in the assembly and maintenance of aircraft. Pacific Fighters was a fast paced, high performing environment, and I loved every second of working there. The focus of my experience was the restoration of a P-51A named “Shanty Irish” which placed 2nd in Silver Class of the Reno Air Races in September of 2017.
