My Name is Ben Johnson and I am a fifth year architecturestudent at North Dakota State University working towards myMaster’s degree. Being an architect is what I’ve always dreamedof doing and I am well my way to living that dream.The NDSU architecture program has taught me numerous elementsof design including sketching, design process, technology andattention to detail. Sketching and drawing has helped me toportray my ideas from the beginning all the way to a completedrendered drawing. During my time at NDSU, I have been ableto expand on my drawing skills by using a variety of artistic toolsincluding pens and Prisma markers.The technology portion is an intricate piece of the architectureprogram. My work with a 3D printer and 3D mouse, laser cuttersand the CAD program has provided me with hands-on experiencetransforming images from paper to reality.Learning about the design process has shown me how to workthrough my ideas and take them from a simple thought to acompleted rendered design. I especially enjoy working on detailedaspects of a project because details can make the differencebetween good and great. Those small details are what peoplenotice and remember.
