About Benjamin Johnson

Let me be blunt: I am too old to consider any kind of soul-sucking corporate day job. I did that for twenty years, and my life never got any better because of it. I’m interested in work that makes a difference in the lives of real people, that does some kind of good in the world, or that otherwise makes the world a better place. Small independent businesses, non-profits, and do-gooders: Hit me up! Fortune500s, tech giants, or any company big enough to control a SuperPAC: Keep moving, unless you want to pay me stupid amounts of money to tell you all of the ways you’re being horrible and how and why you should stop it.

When classes were not in session and my presence was not as necessary in the student areas, I assisted the main technology office with faculty and staff support. In 2004, the Law School initiated a laptop program, whereby all students were given a laptop at orientation which I supported (both software and hardware) throughout their Law School careers, and I was given the slightly ambiguous title of Laptop Program Coordinator.Shortly after the Law School implemented its Laptop Program, I was promoted to an IT Professional (July 2005), and was responsible for all student-related IT support at the Law School, including laptops, wireless network, computer labs, printing, and student-run journals. As the Law School's laptop program grew, we hired two additional student support personnel and I was promoted to supervisor of the Laptop Center (July 2007). In that role I continued to provide support to students with my team of two full-time staff members and anywhere from one to thirteen student workers. After the Laptop Program was discontinued in 2012, the student support office was rolled back into the main technology support group, and I was responsible for the new centralized helpdesk until July of 2014 when I relocated to the East Coast.During my time as an IT Supervisor at the Law School, I was elected to the Civil Service Senate twice and the University Senate once. I was also appointed to serve on several committees, including the Law Managers' Development Group, the Law School Committee on Misconduct, the Law School Community Building Committee, the Law School Faculty-Staff Consultative Committee, Web Portal Committee, and various search committees.
