My career actually started in high school while I was hanging halfway out of a moving car. I had a clunky, VHS video camcorder mounted on my shoulder. Several friends and I were shooting a car chase sequence for an epic student project.After several more film making shenanigans my career took turns that landed me in corporate finance cubicles, latex glove factories in Southeast Asia, and finally in an operational leadership role in a dynamic internet business.How do these experiences fit together? Each required some amount of:--Planning: shooting a movie requires organizing people, equipment, and places. It's a complex operation. I am in my element when planning.--Curiosity: my interest in how people, products, and processes work ensure I don't get bored.--Applied learning: recently, when faced with a backlog of customer orders, I researched "lean thinking". I shared the ideas with my team of operations managers. Together we implemented several lean office concepts: one-piece flow, combination of duties, resource requirement planning, and visual management.
