I'm a writer, researcher and media relations strategist working mostly in the higher education, government and water/wastewater sectors. In addition to my own clients, I work with Legend Labs to produce Canary, a newsletter focused on reputation, communication and higher education.My work as a speechwriter for university presidents has seen me craft remarks, releases and keynotes for a variety of presidents at UT Austin, Wake Forest, Berklee College of Music and Stony Brook. My experience in the water sector began with an interim role as North America editor at Global Water Intelligence and has continued with utilities in Texas navigating what may turn out to be the drought of record. As for Texas politics, I have worked as a communication director in the Texas Senate, a committee clerk in the Texas House, and as a journalist covering Texas elections and legislative sessions. The pink dome is a place that remains dear to my heart — and on behalf of my clients, I keep my ear close to the capitol grounds.From 2015-2018, my professional work focused on the relocation of Confederate statues from public spaces to museum settings. In that capacity I was interviewed by USA Today, PRI and the Irish Times. As a curator, I've talked about my work with USA Today, The New York Times, The BBC, and The Texas Standard. I continue to pursue (at a glacial pace) a PhD in History at UT, focused on Texas during World War I and the Spanish Flu.When not working (and often when I am, thanks to zoom) my title is Dad. My youngest is Elizabeth. She was born in August 2021. (We started the pandemic with a puppy and ended it with a baby.) She's awesome, as are my other two kiddos, Rosemary and Josephine (14 and 11 respectively.) My wife's name is Carla and we get on really well most of the time. She's a speech language pathologist, dance instructor and much cuter than me. In my spare time, I enjoy playing guitar and making electronic music (think: Ross from Friends), arguing about things online, and getting injured playing soccer with the other dad-bods. Originally from the UK, I have been in the US since 2003.
