The primary function of leadership is the empowered release of multiplied energies toward outcomes. Empowerment is not abdication, it is the ‘high energy contact sport’ of building capability. Leadership is best measured in terms of the quality and quantity of willing follow-ship it begets. Leadership of self or others is a natural choice we all make, one way or the other. It’s always situational, it depends. Paradoxically the choice to not show leadership, is an act of leadership in some situations, but not many. Leadership emerges and exists naturally in the family, tribe, herd, pride, organisation and individual.The consequences of leadership behaviour are governed by natural laws. Examples are energy, thinking, action, emotion, trust, diversity and attraction. People often ignore the governance of these laws, but the laws never ignore people. The consequences are always delivered. These principles of nature are constant, universal, and timeless. Aligned and cognisant behaviours, achieve better results over time. We all have a unique, innate ability to show leadership. We lead ourselves and others effectively toward the efficient management of 'stuff' (Technical collective term for other, non-human resources:) Leadership relates to service and subordinates ego and hierarchy to shared growth and wellbeing, without fear or favour. Invariably acts of leadership are corresponding acts of courage: people showing leadership must manage and recharge their own energy.Leadership effectively releases human resource, energy and potential to the efficient control and management of other resources Eg. time, money and equipment. ‘Old Skool Boss Managers’ who engage mostly in the efficient and coercive control of human resource, are not optimising or maximising the performance of any resource. Leadership engages hearts and minds multiplying outcomes in often surprising and unforeseen ways. It seemingly produces more with less, crafting exciting and expanding spaces of continual adaptation and learning.
