A lifelong advocate for wildlife, Beth Pratt has worked in environmental leadership roles for over twenty-five years, and in two of the country’s largest national parks: Yosemite and Yellowstone. As the California Regional Executive Director for the National Wildlife Federation, she says, “I have the best job in the world—advocating for the state’s remarkable wildlife.” Before joining the Federation in 2011, she worked on sustainability, green building, and climate change programs for Xanterra Parks & Resorts in Yellowstone as its Director of Sustainability. Under her leadership, Yellowstone’s environmental programs received environmental achievement awards from the National Park Service three years in a row. Prior to her role in Yellowstone, for nine years Pratt served as the Vice President/CFO for the non-profit Yosemite Association (now Yosemite Conservancy) in Yosemite National Park.Beth also leads the #SaveLACougars campaign for the National Wildlife Federation to build the largest wildlife crossing in the world to help save a population of mountain lions from extinction, and her innovative conservation work has been featured by The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, BBC World Service, CBS This Morning, the Los Angeles Times, Men’s Journal, NPR and more. Beth obtained a BS/BA from the University of Massachusetts, an MBA from Regis University, earned the LEED AP credential, and trained with Vice President Al Gore as part of his Climate Reality Leadership Corps. Beth also served as a founding board member and the board chair for the nonprofit Outdoor Afro for eight years. The Western Section of the Wildlife Society named her “Conservationist of the Year” in 2023, and in 2024, she received the Alan Rabinowitz Conservation award from the Explorers Club. In 2023, she launched The Wildlife Crossing Fund, an initiative to raise a half a billion dollars in private funding to advance wildlife crossings across California and the country.Her books include "When Mountain Lions are Neighbors," published by Heyday Books in 2024, "I Heart Wildlife: A Guided Activity Journal for Connecting with the Wild World" by Di Angelo Publications in 2020. Her upcoming book, "Yosemite Wildlife," will be released by the Yosemite Conservancy in 2025. She has given a TEDx talk called, “How a Lonely Cougar in Los Angeles Inspired the World,” is featured in the documentary, “The Cat that Changed America,” and in the relaunch of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. Beth spends much of her time in Los Angeles, but makes her home outside of Yosemite.
