I initially became involved with SPIHN at it's inception, when it was a shelter for homeless children and their families. The families worked with a case manager to ensure resources that would lead them to independence/sustainability. During my 14+ years of employment, I was able to grow SPIHN into a program that provided a myriad of wrap around services for all populations of homeless - families and chronic individual homeless. For the families, case management services were provided; I was able to add programs such as spiritual and clinical counseling, Triple P parenting instruction, aftercare case management and internal housing program for when they graduated the program. Through my work with the Homeless Point In Time Count, I was now able to connect with the chronic homeless providing outreach, and prevention funding to help those facing eviction or for the homeless needing help with rental/utility deposits. In 2019, SPIHN was able to connect with the Continuum of Care and now provides a Rapid Rehousing program. Also, in 2019, SPIHN piloted the Spartanburg Opportunity Center, which is a center open 3 days per week, providing showers, laundry, clothing, food, storage, case management and a health clinic for those in need, primarily those living on the streets. The center averages 125+ people using the facility on any given day. Under my tutelage, SPIHN became the administrator for two new programs 1), an Outreach Coordinator who is a liaison between those homeless individuals living on the streets, City Law Enforcement and the Community; and 2) the SC Litter Hero Program which provides not only temporary employment for homeless individuals, but those employees receive weekly case management and life skills education. After the 90 day employment period, these individuals are hired by companies on a full time basis; case management is still provided.I have been involved in various committees with United Way of the Piedmont, United Housing Connections, City of Spartanburg, Upstate Continuum of Care, First Steps/Early Head Start Policy Council, Steering Committee member - SFC Charles A. Judge, Jr. Memorial Stand Down, Homeless Point In Time Count Coordinator - Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union Counties, Homeless Court Steering Committee and Advocate., Advisory Board Member - St. Vincent De Paul Society & certified in Triple P Parenting. I am a recipient of the United Way 2018-2019 Sylvia Stahley Speakers Award and a 2019 graduate of Leadership Spartanburg.
