Profile bio

About Bethany Fleming

I obtained my degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Central Lancashire in 2020. Thereupon, I am continually looking to start my journey within the Criminal Justice System, by gaining experience and/or volunteer work to aid with my career henceforth. I’d love to be given such an opportunity, and to learn every aspect within these roles. However, I am also keen on gaining experiences in other sectors as well, in order to continually build on my knowledge and skills in numerous areas.Throughout my early years, I have experienced an incredible amount of personal trauma, which has enabled me to learn many life lessons/skills way before my time. I believe this will be useful, as I have a mature mindset, I am appreciative of any opportunity given to me, and can use my distressing experiences to help others in similar situations. Alongside this, other strengths/skills I have developed over the years, is the compassion and empathy for others who are struggling or are in a less than ideal situation. Additionally, I have an incredibly strong passion to care for others and to help them in whatever way I can, this is why I wanted to choose a career which helped people- hence my degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice. I believed that sector had the most people who needed help, whether that be the perpetrators of the crime, the witnesses, or the victim(s). I believed with my previous experiences, I could help them. However, I had completed my degree mid way through 2020, and thus, the start of the Coronavirus Pandemic. Therefore, my focus changed, I knew other sectors needed help such as the Health and Social Care sector, more specifically, those with mental health issues and/or physical disabilities. As a result, I got a job as a mental health support worker, helping many individuals who were struggling during the Coronavirus Pandemic. Once the Covid-19 restrictions were easing, my attention turned to helping those within the benefit system, as this was an area which needed staff to get back on track after the pandemic. As a result, I got a job as an Administrative Officer for Personal Independence Payment. This has given me the opportunity to help many people, especially during the current Cost of Living crisis. My absolute goal has always been to help people, wherever that may lead me. I may only have limited experience thus far, however, determination, drive and enthusiasm are deeply ingrained within me. Therefore, any aspects required for the job, I am willing to learn and do whatever is necessary to succeed in said position.
