I started as a small business owner, running writing and tutoring jobs on the side as I tried to also keep up with my family. I spent more of my time researching marketing and branding tips, creating campaigns, and writing blog posts than actually running my businesses. After using this expertise to ghostwrite for other marketing companies, I realized how little these large companies truly care about small business owners. I started my own business, yet again, this time to help other small business owners get the relief and personal care for their brand that they need.I created Berry Bay Marketing to make a welcoming space for small business owners to explore their digital marketing options, stress-free. We provide services to strengthen branding, plan marketing, and create content for your business. I love sitting down with potential clients and learning about the brand they’ve poured their hearts into.

I am responsible for creating original blog posts, articles, and website content for a myriad of companies through Textbroker. I am responsible for meeting the client’s writing requirements and strive to put forth the best work I can offer. I have worked on many projects for companies, including informative articles about disability, education, children, and health. I have also worked on writing projects for myself such as blog posts, my 45,000-word novel, and publishing short stories. Recently, I began a project for a company to create product descriptions for a new website.Freelance writing cultivates many skills, not just writing. While it has honed and sped up my writing, it has also improved my research skills, my ability to follow detailed instructions, and my use of HTML formatting.

I taught several online classes through Zoom for younger students. Classes ranged from pre-school all the way to 5th grade. I taught several different curriculums and developed proficiency with Zoom and other digital learning platforms.

As an independent tutor, I worked with many kids from elementary age to college-level teaching reading, writing, math, and science. I was responsible for creating individualized learning for each student and adjusting my teaching style to match their learning style.I designed several projects for my kids to work on with me, including but not limited to a math mystery to expand algebra skills, math games, science experiments, phonetic flashcards and games to improve reading and spelling skills, and writing games which focused on structure, word use, and reading comprehension.Tutoring allowed me to expand my teaching skills, creativity, and researching while also improving customer service, appointment skills, and bookkeeping. While tutoring is mainly focused on the individual student, I also practiced building and maintaining client relationships with the parents.

I was responsible for teaching elementary-age students how to read effectively. I used different reading programs to help kids who struggled to read catch up to grade level. I kept track of students’ progress. I also taught several students in math. I was responsible for my students, my workspace, and keeping students safe during lunch and recess.I worked with my team to accomplish several projects during my time, including fun events for students, organizing and filing important documents, preparing for and testing many students’ reading ability, and more. I also headed individual projects with my students.Teaching and working with children requires many skills, such as patience, understanding basic child psychology, creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to capture kids’ attention. I also improved in working as a team and learning how to de-escalate many situations through connection to the child.

As a teacher, I was responsible for creating lesson plans, planning and executing educational activities, and working with children. I was responsible for paying attention to detail and for reacting quickly when something went wrong.Many of the projects I worked on revolved around teaching children in a fun manner. With a theme for every month, I worked to create projects that would educate children from reading to science to math to working with their hands, but would also be a fun project for them. We created our own playdough, compasses, spy gear and much more.I became very skilled at researching educational activities, multitasking, and understanding children. I constantly practiced patience and quick thinking, especially when teaching a concept that was hard to grasp.

I was responsible for designing creative flyers and handouts, writing emails, maintaining web content, scheduling, and planning events, and creating educational resources. As an employee, I designed and implemented two mission trips as well as aided in the planning of two summer camps. I also wrote several sermons for myself and others to use.I cultivated many of my computer skills in this job, learning the ins and outs of websites, how to create digital posters that capture attention, and creating motivating web content for readers to take action. I also practiced my writing skills in weekly emails, web content, sermons, discussion questions, and even stories for younger children.

I opened the store. This involved unloading the morning truck, making sure the store was clean and pleasing to customers, stocking pastries and cakes, making extra cookies, icing cupcakes, checking personal orders to make sure they had been filled correctly, and politely and professionally helping customers that came in the store by taking orders or supplying them with delicious treats. I enjoyed working here because I was able to bring a smile to people's face. I would take as much time as I could to make sure each customer got exactly what they wanted, trying to go above and beyond to meet their needs. Whether they needed a specific design or writing on their cake, or wanted a box of goodies to look extra special, I would do my best to add what I could and make it the best it could be. I also enjoyed being able to work side by side my co-workers and make good conversation, whether something that made us laugh as we worked or helping each other work through life problems. I used many people skills in this job. I had to help and appease extremely upset customers as well as go above and beyond for every guest and co-worker. I stood for long periods of time, multi-tasked several things at once, from phones to customers to orders to stocking the cases, and ran the store in the morning by myself.
