Elyria Works Now is a workforce development pilot program led by City of Elyria Mayor's Office. This cross-sector collaboration brings together stakeholders from government, industry, education, non-profit, for-profit, and faith-based organizations to reduce the city's 22% poverty rate and build a pipeline of entry-level workers in maufacturing. Participants are provided job readiness training developed and conducted by highly qualified career coaches and are taught introduction to manufacturing and safety taught by a college professor who also works in manufacturing. Those who complete the training are connected to open positions at one of our four partner manufacturers. The volunteer program leverages critical support from members of faith-based communities and non-profit organizations for those who have difficult barriers and a lack of resources. The goal is to cast a wide safety net of support to those living in poverty who are seeking full-time employment. Volunteers may particiapate in a group mentoring program designed to support participants in setting a life plan that will mobilize them. Other volunteer opportunities include helping to conduct mock-interviews, provide a ride to work in an emergency situation, or help in the computer lab with resume building, applications, career assements, etc.
