Senior Defense & Foreign Policy Advisor

• Principal advisor to Congressman Garamendi in his role as Chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee on the House Armed Services Committee (HASC), which is responsible for authorizing nearly one-third of the DOD budget• Worked closely with Readiness Subcommittee staff to shape the Congressman’s priorities & scope Subcommittee hearings & briefings. Focus areas included strengthening resiliency of military installations & operational energy initiatives, military construction, weapon system sustainment, efforts to address PFAS contamination, & reforms to improve privatized military family housing• Managed the Congressman's work on the Strategic Forces Subcommittee, tasked with oversight of our nation’s nuclear weapons, missile defense, & national security space programs• Led efforts to advance the Congressman’s priorities in the National Defense Authorization Act by drafting amendments, building support among Member offices, working with committee staff, & finding solutions to challenging policy proposals• Managed a diverse team comprised of two defense & foreign policy fellows each year• Interacted daily with Senior Leaders in the DOD to include the Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, & Space Force• Led the 90+ member Air Force Caucus for the U.S. House of Representatives, planning & executing Congressional interactions with Senior Air Force leaders to include the Secretary of the Air Force & Chief of Staff of the Air Force• Coordinated with Base leadership & local stakeholders to advocate for the interests of Travis & Beale Air Force Bases located in the district• Managed a diverse foreign policy portfolio, including interactions with international partners & dignitaries from dozens of nations• Represented the Congressman on Congressional staff delegations, both domestic & abroad, including to Estonia, China, & dozens of U.S. military installations• Advised the Congressman on national security issues for frequent national TV interviews
