It took a while for Bev Thomas to realize that there has been a theme to her entire life. Brought up with parents and grandparents who strongly believed that community service is an important part of life, Bev’s career in leadership positions started at an early age. Bev was the first Executive Director of the Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association, and as she and her husband raised their 2 sons, Bev served on the McHenry County Mental Health Board for 25 years, with more than 20 years as President. She has been associated with United Way of Greater McHenry County since 1978 serving as both Board Member and Chair of the Crystal Lake Division, earning the Volunteer of the Year award twice for successful campaigns. After a long career as a research librarian at an environmental engineering company and juggling volunteer positions, Bev decided that it was time to recommit to social services and leave the business world behind. Joining McHenry County College in 2008, Bev served as the Coordinator for the 22nd Judicial Circuit Family Violence Coordinating Council and for the People in Need Forum. She is also on the Board of Directors for the Family Health Partnership Clinic, and is a board member for the McHenry County Child Advocacy Center.Bev now serves with the McHenry County College Foundation's Education to Empowerment Scholarship Program with its exciting world of scholarships and fund raising, interesting students, great faculty, staff and administrators, and many events at MCC.
