I am a contractor. My skills are current in Veritas, aka Symantec, solutions providing high availability and disaster recovery capabilities to storage, servers, applications, and data centers. I have expertise in planning sales strategy, including the creation of and presentation to management of Proof of Concepts. I have successfully implemented Veritas/Symantec HA/DR solutions working under strict SOW contracts with enterprise class financial, pharmaceutical, medical, government, and educational businesses.Implemented numerous solutions involving Veritas/Symantec Storage Foundation, Cluster Server and Volume Replicator and Global Clustering on physical servers (HP, IBM, Oracle/Sun, Intel) and virtual servers (VMware, KVM, Hyper-V) connected to such enterprise storage as EMC (Vmax, Vplex, Clariion), HP (3PAR, EVA) and NetApp FAS. Most recent work involved implementing Veritas InfoScale Enterprise 7.0 on RedHat Linux 6.7 VMs in a Global Cluster to enable the HA/DR of Oracle 12c and a custom application.

I have achieved Authorized Symantec Consultant certification in both High Availability (VCS) and Storage Management (SF)

Most recent project involved installing and configuring a 5 node VCS cluster in support of 5 instances of Oracle 11g R2 running on 3 nodes and 3 instances of the Ventyx Service Suite 9.1 running on 2 nodes.

I go on-site for training and consulting to system, storage, and application admins employed by Fortune 500 companies on the technical details of implementing VERITAS/Symantec high availability software solutions on both UNIX and Windows platforms.

An opportunity presented a chance to work at the fastest and most dynamic software company of the day, VERITAS, in late 1999. I led in-depth, 5 day x 8 hr. days, of technical training classes on Symantec storage, high availability, and disaster recovery applications. I began mastering software at the most rapid pace in my career. This began with:* VERITAS Storage Foundation (SF) which includes Volume Manager (VxVM) and File System (VxFS). Storage operations involved VERITAS snapshots. The most common storage using application supported was Oracle 8, 9i, 10g, 11g and Oracle RAC. The Sun OS was Solaris R5.8, 9, and 10 including Zones. The HP OS was HP-UX R9.0 through 11.x, and, occasionally, IBM’s AIX R5.x including LPARs.AS VERITAS customers began using servers in clusters and virtualized applications, I provided the installation and configuration expertise needed to manage this complex environment using:* VERITAS Cluster Server (VCS), VERITAS Volume Replicator (VVR) and VERITAS Global Cluster (GCO) in a maximum of 32 server clusters.* VERITAS Storage Foundation Cluster File System (SF CFS) which includes Cluster Volume Manager (CVM), Cluster File System (CFS) in tandem with VERITAS Cluster Server and, for truly aggressive enterprises, VERITAS Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC (SF Oracle RAC) in 2, 3, or 4 node clusters.

The college was unable to keep current with the rise of the client-server technologies and the possibilities of the Internet. I decided that to stay current with technology (in “computers”) I must pursue a new category of employment. I resigned from the faculty and began contracting my services working primarily on UNIX OS (HP-UX, AIX, SCO) based systems. My professional skills expanded to include interacting with business customers and national travel, while my server-based technology skills reached into storage and networks and enterprise class Databases, particularly Oracle RAC.

After teaching programming, the new PC technology begun by IBM and Microsoft DOS and office occupation software came to define “computers” and guided my new learning. Fatefully, I was recruited by MTC to teach interested faculty in remote access to VAX 11/780 systems and its software. This required that I understand UNIX. In 1985 I began my study of UNIX using AT&T SVR4 on a 3B2 “mini-computer” and directed the college to offer classes using PC’s and SCO UNIX. My UNIX use has continued to the present day. My area of technological and pedagogical expertise grew to include Comparative Operating Systems, Visual Basic Programming, and PC Databases (Access, dBase3, and Osiris). I was a member of a dynamic department whose success led to several state-wide contracts to train public school personnel and this brought in “travel” as a regular part of my professional duties.
