I worked on a desktop application used by scientists and financial analysist in the oil industry. The application provided data management, sophisticated visualization, and data analysis capabilities. I developed data selection and data display interfaces and developed database journaling entries to allow for replaying multi-step analysis on different inputs. According to the marketing team, the complete release was the most significant in the product history and was well received by customers.

I worked on a diverse set of software and oil exploration and production problems. Highlights:* Finalist in application plugin competition. Developed module for distributed interaction to allow collaboration between remote sites. The plugin synchronized mouse, views, and display settings across multiple desktops, and provided a built-in chat functionality.* Created 2D and 3D data models for subsurface structure along with numerous geometric operations on them. * Developed feature extraction from 3D regularly gridded arrays (post-stack seismic volumes). Features extracted include fault discontinuities using structure tensors and horizons using point-to-point cross-correlation.* Created the company's flagship application framework and application data access layer.* Provided extensive support to internal customers of the application framework* Developed data access APIs in collaboration with database developers.* Worked on funded-development project with representatives of a major oil company to create dozens of new features needed to find and evaluate new oil basins. * Developed C++-based Windows applications for the GeoGraphix suite, including the XSection fence-post diagram component, and the PRIZM petrophysical analysis program.

I worked on the Grapher Windows app and various sub-systems shared by most of the applications. The worksheet module I developed is still apparently being used (many apologies to subsequent maintainers! I was still learning C++ and OOP).

Lab work is both a lot of fun and sometime tedious. I was involved in an export compliance program for shipping apples to Japan. It involved culturing randomly sampled Red Delicious apples for the fire blight bacterium. Now, why any one would want to import Red Delicious is beyond me. It's got to be one of the worst apple varieties.

Monitored and maintained remote meteorological sensors in the Snowy Range mountains. Retrieved and processed data, programmed data loggers, and generated reports.

Assisted the principal investigator and graduate students with research activities. Programmed data loggers, constructed thermocouple tips and leads, operated image capture devices, operated portable infra red gas analyser (IRGA) to measure transpiration rates, collected plant samples in remote mountain locations, constructed thermocouples, collected and processed data, performed statistical analysis.
