I started my music career in Fay NC playing in local clubs during my high school years and went in the service and continued playing in special services and was discharged in 1955. I started music schooling in New York City at Mannes College for three years. From there I started playing with bands around New York City. My earlier playing was with Bill Doggett, Paul Williams, King Curtis, Ron Anderson and the Apollo Theater House Band. . My band was put together in 1971 playing the New York circuits…the Cabarets and Clubs. I started producing in 1972 along with my partner Gerry Thomas. We started the Fatback label at that time. We had about four artists on the label. In late 73 I produced the first Fatback Band album on Perception Records. After producing 3 records with Perception Records…we went to Spring Records. We stayed with them for about 10 years then went to Cotillion Records in 83 and produced two Fatback albums. We did a lot of touring throughout Europe and the Far East. We took a sabbatical between 1993-2001. 1993 I moved back to Fay NC being actively involved in producing new music for Fatback. In 2004 we re-activated the Fatback Label and Band released "The Second Generation". Since then 3 EP’s remix's just released new house version of "I found lovin." Nov 2007…and in the process producing a album with some of my buddies,“Bill Curtis & Friends.” and my biggest job presently is finding ways to keep the band working and distributing music. Finding people with the same interested that I have in keeping music alive is a very big job... There is still money in soul music around the world.. One of my main interests are spreading funky music to different cultures' and visiting countries that are not highly exposed to black music and.
