I thought I wanted to be an engineer for the longest time because I loved solving problems, doing math problems, and designing solar-powered cars. However, as I have progressed in college and my career, I have found that what calls to me isn't just finding and developing solutions to problems but working with others to see those solutions implemented. That realization is why I am now studying Finance at Utah State University, within the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business, and seeking a career in project management.While making the switch from engineering to finance was a big decision, I have enjoyed the upper-level business classes that I am beginning to take, particularly those within the field of financial decision-making. Through my data management courses, I have also been able to gain basic competency in SQL and python and am working on obtaining certification in Excel.While in college, I have honed my leadership and team management skills in the Air Force ROTC. While early morning PT sessions get old exceedingly quick, the lessons, connections, and friendships that I have made will pass the test of time. Through the ROTC, I have gotten opportunities to lead teams and projects that would otherwise be unavailable to underclassmen. Going to school full-time, being an active participant within the ROTC detachment, and working part-time at Sunpro has helped me improve my planning and time management skills. All of the hard work and dedication has paid off as I was recently awarded a national, merit-based scholarship for my efforts within Detachment 860 here at Utah State University.
