Cadetship as an introduction to User Research working with a focus on UK racing using a range of qualitative research methodologies.

I joined Long Sutton Community Primary School as a Seconded Acting Head Teacher on a year's contract but was subsequently appointed to the post permanently in December.The school is a large, rural school with a long history of satisfactory OFSTED judgements and so we are working on developing a school which not only meets an OFSTED judgement but one which provides the best opportunities for outdoor learning using our extensive grounds and which incorporates innovative use of mobile technologies.

For the academic year of 2017-18, I led Long Sutton County Primary and was also the Executive Head Teacher of the Federation of Gedney Church End and Lutton St Nicholas Schools which sit either side of our school.The federation had been unable to appoint and so I will lead the schools and supported the Governors in appointing the current substantive Executive Headteacher with whom I worked very closely up to transition. During the year, we made significant changes to the curriculum, provision of teaching and learning and school structures.

I worked with the Learning and Teaching team in Lincolnshire providing support for schools after leaving the National Strategies. The role enabled me to work with a range of good and outstanding schools in Lincolnshire. Work included planning and delivering modelled lessons to demonstrate the use of Games Based Learning in maths, literacy and across the curriuculum; developing and delivering materials to support teachers in Literacy and Visual Literacy; planning and delivering training materials for good and outstanding schools and speaking at National events such as Kidsmeet (keynote), the Northern Grid for Learning 2011 conference.

I worked as a Literacy Regional Adviser in the Yorkshire and Humber region supporting Local Authority teams and schools.My work included writing materials, resources and providing support and challenge to Local Authority colleagues; a critical focus on working with teachers, improving teaching and learning and raising standards; providing ongoing in-school support for teachers and school management teams as part of Local Authority work; working closely with schools to design new approach to reading and curriculum provision; giving In-depth support for groups of teachers in developing cross curricular work including use of ICT; working as part of web delivery team for National Strategies Framework website developing new sequences and blended learning resources; acting as Regional Learning through Technology Champion developing colleagues’ use of technology in their work and speaking at a wide range of conferences including Lincolnshire Media Education Conference 2010, Storytyne 2010, BETT 2010 Seminar, Leicester City Curriculum Design Conference 2010 and UKLA International Conference 2009.

I served as Deputy Head Teacher in a large Primary school in North Nottinghamshire. The key focus of my role was developing the curriculum whilst raising standards in core subjects. The use of ICT was placed at the heart of a process involving coaching and mentoring to support all staff. Work included leading Curriculum Development across the school working alongside year group and subject leaders; developing tracking of data and learning and teaching resulting in a sustained rise in standards; leading whole school adoption of ICT to raise standards in learning and teaching (including the use of children as ICT Mentors); introducing projection technology, video conferencing and film-making to the school; leading a project to raise standards in writing using multimodal strategies and ICT and continuing to speak at a range of national and international events.I was also lucky to co-author the UKLA book ‘I know what to write now!’ Engaging Boys (and Girls) through a Multimodal Approach with Petula Bhojwani based upon the findings of the Nottinghamshire writing project. The book has gone into reprint and was featured in the TTS Top 100 products.

After the change in contract to Capita my role shifted to be more focused on ICT and Literacy with continued responsibility for writing and delivering materials for NWN training and the NWN website. The role widened to include having sole responsibility for the Early Reading strand of the National Strategies DVD - Keys to Learning, providing information on the progress of LAs in the Central territory against set timescales; planning, organising and leading the second year evaluation of the SWE pilot authorities and feeding back on the findings to the Department for Education and Skills; speaking at national and international conferences; co-ordinating Literacy AST and Literacy consultant training delivered by Literacy Regional Advisors; serving as Regional Director to a West Midlands LA meeting regularly with the Primary Strategy Manager for a support and challenge meeting making judgements on national programmes.

This role saw me working with three other NWN Directors to introduce the Supporting Whiteboards Expansion (SWE) initiative on behalf of the ICT in Schools division of the Department for Education.The main responsibility was to develop a national network of LA consultants to support the introduction of Interactive Whiteboards into Primary Schools with an emphasis on teaching and learning rather than the technology.I had responsibility for the literacy resources, running the NWN website (which had the most used forum of any National Strategies web area), liaising with the IWB industry and national organisations such as Becta. I spoke at a significant range of local, national and international conferences.
