In my Journey to explore enhancement of perception, I stumbled upon a few excellent human beings here @ Wakira and got excited to be with them in their endeavors of building a Food & Beverage Chain that didn't have a name when we first met. I took the mantle of heading their Human Capital just out of passion to conceive the Company and enhance lives of a few who I would bring in to this shared vision. My principle of " Love your work and not the Company" had its way through here and ever since I have taken the role, I am enjoying every bit of it and have handled anything that passed by me namely.. Call of Hotels was disturbing my sleep. Nikhil, a senior colleague at Oberoi Hotels wanted me to be with him for a challenging assignment of opening a new Brand in Bangalore, India.Ista is a new brand under IHHR hospitality with a renowned brand Ananda in the Himalayas, a top spa brand of the world. I took up this challenge for the want of having a pre-opening experience in my career. I nurtured the HR department with a challenge of employer brand building for a new unknown brand. I had the opportunity to develop a grade system, policy, processes, formats and forms, training and development strategy, compensation structure , performance appraisal system etc. I had my hands on to the pre-opening tasks like obtaining licenses like health license, Fire license, Liquor license etc. I built the team at Ista by various recruitment methods like road shows, campus placements, direct recruits etc.

An interesting change in a job after being shaped and sharpened by the set systems and disciplines of Oberoi Hotels and resorts. Having worked in an environment of pre-set structure, I was feeling like a machine and wanted to see other industry and arena of work. I ventured into Hospital and took charge of Hospital HR as its Head HR having to manage a workforce of 2000 employees, including 350 doctors and specialists. A different field of function and managed to get a good command over the people in the hospital. I handled communication activities to large populations and developed a robust performance management system in the entire hospital. I could execute a new training system for patient care and developed training modules for caregivers.

I learned my alphabets here. I started with Oberoi group at their luxury brand - Raj Vilas Oberoi in Jaipur as Cluster Assistant Training Manager, handling both Raj Vilas Oberoi and Trident Jaipur. It was an ocean of professionals and all that you have to do is to jump into a mold. I struggled but squeezed myself into the system. It was a tough learning experience. Didn't do much of training than Orientation and a few behavioral training sessions in supervisory development, communication, team building etc. I then moved to Bangalore Oberoi as Training Manager but accidentally fell into Human Resources function and handled Union negotiation, HR activities, besides handling Training of behavioral skills for the employees. I was then promoted to Trident Cochin as its HR Manager where I handled the HR functions of the hotel as well as managed the pre-opening of Oberoi's luxury cruise liner - Vrinda in Kerala. I then moved to Chennai Trident Hotel as its HR Manager where I handled Union, HR functions, HR developmental activities etc.

Picked up by Mr. Manoj Bhatia, An ex Oberoi professional. My teaching skills in a catering college was all that I had in my hand. The environment gave me the option to get my way through as a trainer in an operational hotel. I got into training lower level staff on standards, grooming, teamwork, communication, courtesy etc. I was given the assignment to develop and implement SOPs for the entire hotel operations. This assignment was passionately taken and I enjoyed working on it as my own creation. This is one document that the entire group used afterwards. Hotel Marine Plaza being a flagship hotel of Sarovar group at that time, I was deputed to conduct training in their sister concerns including pre-opening of Geoffrey's in Delhi.

Just out of Post Diploma in Hotel Administration, I took my first assignment as Officer Trainee at a meagre salary at Ambassador. All that I ended up doing was 6 months of rigorous training in all departments, filing and admin job in HR and a few opportunities to conduct very basic training activities. I was not sharp at delivering sessions and lacked confidence and courage. I wasn't knowing where I was heading to and what I need to do to usher in my career. I hung on to this and moved out to be a teacher in a college.
