After 3 years with Laporte Industries, I moved to University College Cardiff to lead a research team then moved to senior position in the University’s Industry Centre to exploit innovations. After success with EU funding I established a European Office for the University. By the time I left it had an income from the EU which could be counted in millions. While in Cardiff I wrote many articles on renewable energy, hydrometallurgy, waste management and innovation and co-edited 3 books on Anaerobic Digestion and invented several patented processes.In 1990 I moved to establish the European Office in Oxford Brookes University. After 4 years leading the EU activities I also took over the University’s research contracts and technology transfer activities and directed the Oxfordshire RITTS project looking at the barriers to innovation. In 1998 I helped establish a joint-venture spin-out company and was made MD of Oxford Bio-Innovation producing diagnostic kits. In 2000 a full-time MD was appointed and I returned to Brookes. By then OBI employed 5 people and was selling products into 30 different countries. I then took a 3 year secondment to SEEDA and SEERA to set up and run their office in Brussels. My main responsibility was to give the region had a strong voice in Europe by building up relationships with politicians and officials. I also wrote succesful funding bids worth over €6,000,000 and contributed to the success of further bids worth over €30,000,000.In 2004 I left and set up e-bbex Ltd offering a B2B electronic service for business products and services (www.bobex.co.uk). The partnership is now the largest Business to Business Marketplace of its kind in Europe with more than 60,000 registered users.
