Brandon Johnson demonstrates his love for Wichita through progressive programming, investments and initiatives to create a better city for current — and future—residents. The 34 year old Wichita-native’s civic leadership spans more than 10 years in areas including economic development through youth employment advocacy and job creation, social services and community education.In 2011, Johnson created the nonprofit organization, Community Operations Recovery Empowerment (CORE). The agency focuses on community engagement and leadership development, particularly in District I. Through CORE, Johnson has helped foster dialog between law enforcement and residents through a series of “Know Your Rights” forums; as well as hosted several community conversations focused on how to end gang violence and involvement and champions health and wellness through the development of a community gardens with produce being distributed to bordering neighborhoods. He serves on the advisory board of the Heartland Wichita Black Chamber of Commerce and participates as a liaison through Wichita Urban Professionals to the Entrepreneurship Task Force; a group that is affiliated with the Greater Wichita Partnership that holds as its tasks to: “build on Wichita’s rich entrepreneurial heritage by identifying, engaging and advocating for entrepreneurial organizations, businesses and individuals” as well as to “leverage public and private resources important to entrepreneurs.” As an active member of Wichita Urban Professionals, Johnson works to help empower Wichita’s young, diverse and talented through relevant personal and professional development coaching, engaging leadership training and through dynamic social networking events.The accolades Johnson has amassed for his community involvement are numerous, but most important to him is the recognition he receives from his family as husband and father.
