Graduate Student in the Department of History at James Madison University. Focus on World History, Latin American History, and Political and Diplomatic History. Winner of the 2019 Carlton B. Smith Award for Best Thesis in History Department.

During my Master of Arts, World History graduate program I worked as a Teaching Assistant for undergraduate survey classes on World History Prior to 1500, World History After 1500, and United States History from Revolution to the Present Day. Prepared and presented lecture sections for classes of 200+ undergraduate students. Sharpened my ability to translate difficult topics and/or source material into easily understandable lectures that addressed both the wider historical context of a certain period and the significance of specific events, figures, and primary source material. Leveraged interpersonal and oral presentation skills to lead and manage smaller undergraduate discussion sections that focused on encouraging the undergraduate students to analyze, interpret, debate, and engage with primary source documents. Focused on making the material accessible to a class with varied levels of knowledge and structured the class in a way that facilitated communication and debate. Worked closely with the history professors to manage the daily operations of the department and plan future lecture and discussion sections.

Worked as an Intern for the Cold War International History Project (CWIHP) while maintaining a 4.0 GPA with a full graduate course load and continuing to work as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. Researched and gathered materials for complex projects to support CWIHP scholars and conducted research for my independent written research project. Successfully assisted in the coordination and execution of CWIHP events, researched and provided requested materials in multiple languages to scholars, and created, researched, and wrote a unique article based on a digitized primary source database which I helped create and organize as an intern.

As my main project, I labelled and mended the Loudoun County Circuit Court Chancery Case Files from 1757 until the late 1950s as my main project. Additionally, I shadowed a Circuit Court Law Clerk, observed multiple Criminal and Civil trial proceedings, and observed Judges, defense attorneys, and prosecuting attorneys. I also furthered my research and analysis skills through learning to utilize primary source materials such as Deed Books, Will Books, Plats, and original Case Files. Additionally, I aided with administering the daily operations of the history office, library, and archives by planning for and maintaining resources, equipment, and facilities. These daily operations included, but were not limited to, responding to requests for historical information and assisting in the research process for a wide range of customers both within and outside of the Historic Records Office.
