I started this company with Jan Kalman in 1987. It was just the two of us at first, I would shoot and she would style and wrangle kids. The first month I did the bookkeeping, the second month Jan did the bookkeeping, the third month we swore never again and we asked Sandy to help us out on a temporary basis. That was 22 years ago and she is still the first smiling face you see. Since then the company has grown continuously. From just the two of us on our second floor studio in the Warehouse District, to a team of carefully selected photographers and digital artists, in an 18,000 sq ft, state-of-the-art facility in Midtown Cleveland. We have three full time photographers, (I'm the fourth) and four full time digital artists. I still like to shoot when I can, but most of my time is spent at my desk doing, you know, "Stuff". American Greetings was a great place to work during the 70's and early 80's. It was a creatively driven company then, and I learned from talented people and gained a lot of valuable experience. I photographed for the greeting cards and calendars which meant I got to travel and see things most people didn't. I started as a photographer and ended as an art director in the photo department.
