Contracts/General Manager

Wilson Contractors Limited 2003

Queenstown

On the back of the 2007 recession Wilson Contractors had a small client base with its large private developer clients all but reducing their output to zero. I led the way in diversifying our skill base securing new clients, increasing our client base and workload. From here I consolidated the company concentrating on our strengths ensuring clients receive the highest quality product for the best value we can achieve. As part of this process we joined the New Zealand Contractors Federation, Site Safe, QEST and have been externally audited to TSQ1, ACC WMSP Secondary Level and NZ Transport Agency prequalification. In 2012 we achieved a NZCF Construction Special Merit Award and were a finalist in the Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence awards. In 2013 we were winners of two NZCF Construction Awards. My commitment to consistently measuring productivity in all aspects of the business allows us to constantly improve our efficiency. This in turn allows me to keep our price estimates live and continually developing to reflect the progress we are making.Responsibilities include:• Leading our management team, including a civil project engineer, a quantity surveyor, a surveyor and operations manager • Lead the development of Wilson Contractors through continual improvement in efficiency, skill base, relevant experience and industry accreditation. • Produce business and finance plans in conjunction with the company director• Selecting and controlling contractual and procurement procedures• Tendering including submission and cost estimates• Resolving any contractual disputes• Valuation and cost tracking of construction work being undertaken• Project management• Establishing a client’s requirements and undertaking feasibility studies• Identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks• Analysing outcomes of projects, writing detailed progress and completion reports• Manage and development of health & safety, quality and environmental systems

Oct 2010 - Aug 2013

Project Civil Engineer

Wilson Contractors Limited 2003

During my first two years at Wilson Contractors I was responsible for all major construction projects Wilson Contractors carried out. This role entailed ensuring our projects were efficient whilst maintaining the highest levels of quality and safety. As part of this process I implemented many QA, HS and Environmental procedures. I also developed the use of our GPS machine control further adjusting it for the changing market in light of the recession utilizing it on smaller projects than the company had previously tried. This led our clients to recognize our companies’ investment in the industries latest technology and showed the cost saving the technology has to offer.

Oct 2008 - Oct 2010

Site Surveyor

Fletcher Higgins Joint Venture

Wellington, New Zealand

Set out roading, bridge decks, piles, drainage. This included work with GPS, total stations, and machine controlled excavators & graders. Surveyed and produced earthworks quantity reports utilized to prepare cost-to-date reports and to check actual work against the construction programme.

Feb 2008 - May 2008

Project Civil Engineer

England

Worked on various installations including Petrochemical, Power, Chemical, Steel and Gas. This involved working under very tight programmes that had very little room for error due to the nature of the commodities industry. Comprehensive forward planning was crucial to ensure the projects did not run over as this was just not an option for the large commodity companies. Health and Safety are paramount in this part of the industry and I was the Health & safety officer for the civil division. As part of this role I created QA, HS & Environmental procedures which were integral in gaining Jefco Services (a subsidiary company of Promanex) ISO registration. I was also responsible for all setting out in the civil division which included roading, services, and industrial equipment foundations.
