Driven by my desire to continue moving forward in my career development, and an interest in business and management I chose to take my painting experience to the next level. I founded Michael Bourgeois Painting and became the Coquitlam Franchise Manager of University First Class Painters.In this new position I have developed business management skills like problem solving and conflict resolution. Also, as sole proprietor I deal with the day-to-day human resources, marketing, sales, and customer satisfaction of the company. Furthermore, as the company has grown, I have developed skills in business infrastructure and company scaling.

Initially, as part of a class project I teamed up with UBC SEEDS and UBC Access & Diversity in an attempt to create a more cohesive varsity athletics program at the University of British Columbia. With an intercultural understanding and inclusiveness focus on the project initial interviews were conducted on past and present international athletes and from the information gathered it was determined that there was room for improvement with regards to intercultural inclusiveness. This report was published by UBC SEEDS in early 2015.This stage of the project (volunteer) is working towards implementing achievable recommendations in the form intercultural education. I am proud to say that I have a hand in helping improve the experience of present and future varsity athletes and UBC's reputation as a whole.

The Canadian Nationals Cross Country Championship has been hosted by local clubs at Jericho Park since 2011. Along with gathering sponsors and planning race details, organizing a successful national championship also requires planning for an awards ceremony and a venue for celebration. My duties required me to contact multiple venues, meet with venue organizers and arrange the best possible scenario for the athletes on a budget. I handled the booking of the event as well as the organized distribution and selling of tickets to the athletes. These transactions included the handling of sums of money exceeding $1000.From this job I learned many skills that have carried over into my life. Approaching multiple venues and making the best deal possible for my group. It was important to sell my event to the venue as something beneficial for them to take on. Determining costs, arranging transportation, and dealing with down payments were other duties that came with this job.

Mentorship4Athletes is a program started by Athlete Evolution Services designed to help varsity athletes transition into post-undergraduate life through seminar based learning sessions. The seminars focused on finding the hidden job market, selling 'the brand' of being an athlete, resume and cover letter formatting, and much more. There was also a focus on connecting young excited athletes with professionals in the career path of their choosing; highlighting the importance of networking and informational interviews.

Emerald Hills Golf Club

Turf maintenance and labor. High ranking seasonal employee that does both solitary labor tasks as well as managing project teams. The 2012 season found me in charge of a great deal of construction and repair jobs. I find a certain joy in starting work before the sun is up. This is a particularly rewarding position due to its seasonal status as I am often involved in training new employees and helping people new to the work field develop a good work ethic and job skills that will last them a lifetime.

As part of a Student-Athlete Work Placement with the UBC Track & Field Team I was in charge of recruiting. My job was split up into two parts. First initial recruitment, where I replied to enquiries sent to us from athletes as well as initiating contact with athletes that we sought after. Secondly touring and introductions, where it was my job to show the recruit the campus, take them for lunch and introduce them to various members of the coaching staff and team (e.g. team captains). I was also involved to an extent in decision making regarding the awarding of scholarships to new athletes.
