I had many successes with low functioning readers as I chose many stories and novels that were relevant and interesting to students who had little interest in reading. Novels such as Freak The Mighty, The Diary of Anne Frank, and The Outsiders were covered in depth. While at this school, we frequently used data-based grouping to help those students that were not proficient. Also, I frequently used graphic organizers, SmartBoard lessons, and teacher modeling to help students with their comprehension skills.
